Phil Leask
was born in Brisbane, Australia, in 1947 and brought up in Queensland. He
studied English and French at the University of Queensland.
He lived for a number years in Tasmania where he studied for a Diploma of Education at the University of Tasmania. He taught in Scottsdale, Tasmania, before travelling across South-East Asia, Nepal, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan on his way to Europe. During his years based in London, he has worked variously as a teacher, storeman in a department store, hospital porter, adviser in a community law centre, and researcher and adviser on economic development, urban regeneration and community development. He has specialist expertise and long experience in developing urban policy, and in urban design and planning. He has an MA in Modern French History from the University of Sussex and another MA in German Studies (literature, history, philosophy) from University College London. He speaks French, German, Italian and some Spanish.
